Most of the aftermarket stuff is Chinese because of the fierce competition between Napa, CarQuest, Advance and others. To make matters worse, I work for a Ford dealer in Parts and alot of the wheels on the 2010-2011 cars are Chinese! Ford recently did a replacement on some Edges because the chrome was peeling! Some of the electronic modules are made in China. Many of the seals and bearings are Chinese. Profit before quality. Gm has the same issues with thier parts.
Sad state of affairs we're in these days...............

As was said, if you search you can find good bearings, I went to Need Another Part Again, and was handed a pile of Chinese/ Mexico bearings, for one of my trucks. I gave them back and went to the local Gear and driveline store and specified made in USA, they had them all and they were cheaper, Although I would have still bought them if they were more expensive.

I work in a company that welds up air frames.The fuselage cages are all 4130 chrome-molly steel tubing.
Our supplier for the tubing is Charles Vogelsong of The Dillsburg Aeroplane Works in Dillsburg PA.He is the one supplier of 4130 drawn tubing in the USA.
He sells to all the dealers,Nascar ,Government etc.
He told me that all the 4130 tubing is now from China.
This is so hard to believe.

We export our steel to them they are the biggest consumer in Steel, so the parts will be produced there more and more. However, I believe some of the products being imported are of better quality from China compared to years ago from there, but doesn't mean everything is of quality. We can only hope that we have input to the spects of our goods being made and that some how we can quality control them periodically.

Don't forget this;The Chinese factories make what the United States companies order from China to the quality specifications made by these same United States companies. It is the money saved (made) by these United States companies that force the junk quality stuff on us that we don't have to buy.We do get some good quality parts from China imported by companies not so money hungry that they cut quality to make bigger profits. It's not the Chinese quality--It's us!!

We are our own worst enemy. But, on the other hand, US companies are interested in minimum investment and max profits. The number one force behind all this is the stockholder. They have to take care of the stockholders. We got a fuel pump at work today for a used car, a GM, and the pump is made in China. It says on the box made in Mainland China. The pump sells for over $400 list price. Not much is made here anymore. Ford buys electronics from Mexico, Phillipines and china. Truck mirrors come from Australia. Many plastic trim pieces come from Malaysia, India and Indonesia. Alot of parts come from who knows where and are assembled here. Ford Parts Cataloging is done in India, Many of the words used are of British spelling. Many of the illustrations are Japanese ( Mazda ). Cataloging is not what it used to be. Pics stink and descriptions are translations and misleading.
We asked for this and we're really getting it, without the aid of vaseline!

Guys we face the same issues here in australia. We have a campaign to buy australian owned and australan made to save local jobs. One by one our manufacturers are either going overseas to have products made or they are bought by super multi national companies. These mn companies dictate the world we live in i'm afraid.

My Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Canada with parts made in Mexico.
Sure is "A FUR PIECE" from my first Lincoln, a 1958 Lincoln Continental Convertible.

I suppose that is good , But do you remember how poor the quality of U.S. cars had become until they had to compete with Toyota? The cars I drove at work were Vega, Gremlin and Chevette. It was a joy to drive my used 1969 Crown on weekends. I have only owned Ford and Dodge since 1990.

You have to be careful for some American cars are rebadged Foreign cars. Lower priced Fords and Chevys are famous for that.

True, money comes back to a American company, but the wages went to off shore worker.

Conversely, some Toyotas are more American made than Ford or Chevys.

Crazy, but true.
