Pinion Bearing Crush Collar
I have a loud rear end in a 1955 Sunliner , sounds like pinion bearings to me. Seems that the necessary bearings are availible but I can't locate a crush collar . Anybody know where I might find one ?

Re: Pinion Bearing Crush Collar
You can use shims and re-use the one you have. The issue is that you attain the specified minimum torque at the prescribed pre-load. It may take a time or two to get it right, but shouldn't take that much time and effort. Usually just add about .020" to .030" will work. You don't have to completely disassemble the unit to change shims, just remove the yoke and add shims until you get it right. You can get shims of various thickness at a John Deere dealer. Just be sure you know the inside and outside diameters of what you want. buy several just to be sure you don't have to go back.
