Default My New Model A - Yeah!

Hi Group,

Just posted a couple of videos on YouTube. Take a look. This should be fun to restore.

Congrats - Looks like it just needs a little buffing!. Judging from the videos, this car has had it's interior replaced, and likely not original paint. Shocks are not original - they appear to be friction shocks. Don't hesitate to ask questions of this group. Lots of experience here.

Do you ever have the makings of an excellent restoration there! I paid as much attention to the dog rolling around on the grass in the background as I did the Model A at first.

Nice ride! You’ll have fun tinkering with that and getting it on the road. I’m a new Model A owner as well, everyone on this forum is very supportive and very knowledgeable. They’ve all helped me a lot with some problems I’ve run into. Goodluck and have fun!

Another option is to clean it up, stabilize or fix anything that needs it, make sure it is safe, and drive it.

You mention in passing that your fordor has an electric wiper. Ford DID use a late model Heinze electric wiper on some closed cars in 1930, and your car could be one of them. Check for any abandoned vacuum lines in the door frame, fire wall, etc. for evidence of an original vacuum wiper. If no vacuum lines exist, then try to determine the manufacturer of the electric wiper. If labeled Ames, then it's a Heinze wiper. Confusing, I know. But that's what is in the Judging Standards.

please do not re-paint this car!
just clean it up and touch up paint in spots if needed.
looks like seats and door panels are good as-is but headliner is a little flaky.
shocks are aftermarket friction type, not original.
(you will find many divergent opinions here regarding best type shocks)
Drop the oil pan and clean it out before starting- 30 years storage can allow who-knows-what to get inside. Clean out the valve chamber too.
just my humble opinions.
how solid is the body wood?

Nice car! Love the Fordors and Town Sedans. I noticed you have friction shocks, not original as mentioned in your video as mentioned above.

Yeah, it must be the breed (don't know what it is). I adopted the twin sister, she does that all the time. Finds a bug, or grass hopper etc, then crashes down on the ground, rolling around with feet up in the air.

Hi Mike Peters,

Thanks for your comments.

I looked at the wiper motor and could not find any manufacturer name. I even removed the cover and nothing was noted. The unit does not have an on/off switch. However, I did find a toggle switch on the driver side panel that I suspect controls the motor, although the motor does not work.

I also looked for a vacuum line, to no avail.

So, come time to replace, I will do so with a unit that has the switch built in. My prior A's all had vacuum motors that worked intermittently.

Thanks again.

Steve

Video 2 shows our dog rolling around in the background. You would not believe how many comments that I have received about the dog. Really?

Is this what they call being photo bombed?

Steve: Thanks for the good photo of your wiper motor. Looks like an era aftermarket wiper that is found on a lot of Model As with a remote switch, like you found. Original electric wiper motors all had built in switches. Maybe you can get that one to work? A friend has one like yours on his 29 Tudor and it works well. Good luck with it.

Dunno if it's true but I've read that's instinctive from when dogs were wolves - rolling around in stuff to disguise their scent from prey and/or predators. Or maybe it's just fun.

Couple years ago me and two of my brothers were fishing in a pretty remote area of the Nebraska Sandhills. Brother #1 had to do some business off in the weeds. A little while later brother #2's dog came running up with a wad of toilet paper stuck to his back.
Glad it wasn't my dog.
