Ignition information
Just got back from EV8 swap in Fitchburg MA. Cool & windy, a lot of vendors and people. Lots of very happy & smiling faces as this is an excellent meet which was really missed the last 2 years.
Here is what I heard from a local guy. He had been running a Mallory electronic ignition on his 274 flathead w/dual carbs, heads & Isky Max cam. The module failed so he called MSD that bought out Mallory to get another one. No modules. He asked MSD if they were supporting Mallory, "No". MSD apparently bought the competition. Speedway had a couple left, so he got one from them. That one failed. He bought the Stromberg ignition, and was informed that their module was made by Petronix. He installed it on his engine and was very pleased with it for the following reasons; 1. He could not get the Mallory to idle below 850 by adjusting the 2 carbs and the timing, and the Stromberg ran at 675. He also noted it started quicker, and had more power, apparently from a stronger spark. Be interested in other shared experiences |

Re: Ignition information
MSD has a fairly significant history of either actively eliminating the competition or contributing/assisting in the demise of other providers. (Hays and Jacobs come to mind being more recent in this trend)

Re: Ignition information
Points will eliminate module problems permanently. Yes I'm an old fart but I can make points work!
