Default Re: Toploader main shaft interchange

The SMOD T170 RUG 3+1 with cast iron case predates the SROD and TOD aluminum case models. It uses a gate style shifter so it's got enough differences that there are very few interchange parts even though there are similarities.

Tremec used a reverse rocker in the shift mechanism internal to the transmission in order to reverse the movement of the gears but still have a common shift pattern at the stick. It works OK but may be a weak point in the design after a lot of miles & time in service. They work fine for regular driving. Banging them hard maybe not so much.
