Default Another 4 barrel question

I just bought a setup with a 390 CFM holley which has an electric choke.. What has to be done to get it to work on a 6 volt system?

as I'm aware it should be a 12v unit that will need 12v+ with ignition on. Now i'm no expert but I think you'll be hard pressed to find a 6v choke unit, sure someone has crossed this path before but you can always unbolt the electric choke and go back to manual

Convert to a cable mechanical choke. Very easy with a Holley.

Connect the choke pull off to the output of the generator so it will work to release the choke when the engine is running.

Guessing that the heating element in the choke should operate on 6 volts.
Maybe just slower.
Hook it up to 6 volts to see if it opens the choke and if so how long it takes to open.

FWIW, it's been my experience with a Holley 390 that it seldom needs any choke, except perhaps on cold mornings, and then only a little.

Easy conversion to a manual choke.

Bought the manual choke conversion but never put it on because I never seemed to need it. That was 21 years ago and have lived in Seattle, PA, and now AZ. All types of temperature. Am running an electric fuel pump with a fuel pressure gauge, so don't hit the starter until I have a steady 5 lbs. at the carb.

Dick.

I just put the same carb on mine and for the heck of it I hooked the electric choke pull off to my 6 volt system and it works perfect.......for now. hook 6 to it and you can watch the choke open.
