The U joints available from the vendors is different from mine. The new pedal shaft and bushes are also different and much thinner. Is it possible that I have an early AR car. It is registered as a 1928, but who knows?

The vendors sell a more modern ford U-joint used thru 1948, the one you show was factory for the model A. You could be driving an early car what is the serial #?

Pedal shafts were made one inch for the RH drive cars and 3/4 for LH don't know why. I made mine from 1 inch stock and used big end (wrist pin) bushes

Tks J,
I believe mine was built from parts and I do not have the serial number because I never saw the frame and it might not even have the same engine number. But thanks anyway. The engine is at the engineering works at the moment.
Regards

TKS Roscoe,
Funny enough the LH/ RHD came to mind but I thought NAA NEVER, CANT BE.
Thanks for the tip.

Les Pearson has written a book on the right hand drive model A , he used to manufacture most of the parts, but has sold the business now and retired to write about Model As.
Selling his book on Trademe ( a local version of Ebay)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=897509976

also available from Amazon and Model A dealers

or you can see his book and his contact details on Youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRFtCeGXwOw

He has written other books too.

He sold the parts business to these guys.

It seems as if U joints have been out of stock for more than a year now. Any one know of a vender that might have, please. Or suggestions for a substitute unit.
Regards
Chris

But you already knew that.
How do you know that U joints are not different in the RHD cars?

I have nothing to do with Mr Pearson other than that I have purchased parts from him.

My intention was simply to share information, just as your website does sir.

May I ask,
Why do you list your website at the bottom of every post you make?

J,
Mine still seems good and solid BUT the front part is cracked. It looks as if there is a washer between the gearbox output shaft and the front section of the U Joint which was not insetred correctly. I think the washer was sitting at an angle when the bolt was thightened, which caused the housing to crack.
Apparently the vendors hadnt had any for a year. I suppose it could be welded up until I can get a new one. It is such a hugh job to replace it at a later stage, so I was hoping there was a later model I could use.
Regards
Chris

Edited. In fact if you look closely at my first picture the one in post #3 you can see the crack where the through bolt tightens down.

I think you are seeing a cracked washer. Try tapping it out of the U-joint.

Hey Tom, you are correct. I thought it was part of the casting. I pried it off and the U joint is fine but the washer is cracked.
Thank you very much Tom. I am good to go.
And thanks every one for your input.

That's a special thick washer with a tab to fit between the splines.
Do you have a spare, or can you order one?
