Default International Harvester? What year?

This photo was taken in 1917 of my dad and his grandad. His grandad was known as the watermelon king of Portage WI. My dad was 3 years old when this was taken.

Can you guys help me? Is this an International Harvester? If it is, what year?

Thanks,
Mike

Being in Wisconsin my guess would be Case, were my uncle worked in Racine.

That's a great photo from back in the day.

You can see the IHC logo on the radiator. It looks like a 1912 or 1913 but there was little change for a few years.

My guess about 1910 You can see the emblem just past the headlight. Go to the veteran Intl Harvester registry

Thanks guys, if I remember correctly, Dad told me it was a 1910.

His grandfather was quite a character. He was a heavy drinker, probably because of a broken leg that never healed properly. Dad told me that his grandad was over six foot tall on his good leg, and 5'7” on the bad one. One time he went into town and left $100 at the police station to cover his bail for the next year. Apparently he got tired of being arrested for drunkeness and not having anyone to bail him out.

I remember Dad taking me to town in the late forties and introducing me to three civil war veterans. The town had put up a bench on mainstreet for the guys to sit on. They were all over 100. Two Union and one Confederate. I wish that I would have been able to talk with them and understand their stories. Dad knew them all on a first name basis. I think that was the first time I ever heard Dad called by his nick-name. Blackie.

Thank god for some of these memories,

Mike

Mike,

Great stories. If we only were able to go back in time and revisit some of those opportunities missed.

My father said that he knew a Civil War veteran. My dad died when I was 8, so I never got to follow that up, but I think he was talking about his uncle. Many is the time that I wish I knew more about all of that.

My wife had an elderly aunt who was a wonderful storyteller. I often thought about videoing her telling her stories, as they were lost with her. We never did, unfortunately, and we had the technology at the time to do it.
