1937 Ford truck 95 hp ?
I have an advertising brochure dated July 12 1937. It quotes 85 horsepower engines in the 15cwt, 20cwt, 30cwt light commercial units, and 95 horsepower in the new 40-60 cwt heavy duty trucks. Can anyone tell me what difference there was in these engines from the 85 hp. I didn't think the 95 hp engines came out until 1939. Thanks for any info.

A 1951 F1 was 90 HP. Says so on the tag inside the glove box.
I can’t see Ford rating a 51 at les power than a 37. |

1937 engine was only 221 ci. 85 HP was the only rating for that year.

Re: 1937 Ford truck 95 hp ?
The horsepower of all Ford engines is provided by the advertising dept, and not the engineering Dept. No 221/239 engine ever produced more than 80 HP.

Aw, c'mon! I've read in Hot Rod Magazine that three 97s, hopped-up racing heads, Fenton headers and a relief job guaranteed you nearly 300 horsepower! DD |

I've got a 1 1/2 ton Flat bed. How do I go about finding out the correct horsepower? It would appear there are as many opinions as there was trucks built. I've gone to multiple ( good sources) and some say 85 and some say 100hp.

Well, it's not 100, not if it's a 221 cu in engine (or a 239 for that matter). Are you looking for advertised hp or actual hp?

Re: 1937 Ford truck 95 hp ?
There where only two engines, in 1937. The 60 HP (V8 60) and the 85 HP, 221 CI.
3 each Models, 73 (commercial, 74 (car), 75 (Truck) all V8 60 engines. The 85 HP Models are 77 (Commercial), 78 (car), 79 (Truck). There were many chassis option on the trucks (Wheel Base, Springs and wheels).

Re: 1937 Ford truck 95 hp ?
I appreciate the response. An old timer friend of mine (85 yrs old) said the 1 1/2 tonners had 95 or 100 horsepower engines. He owns " Skips Repair" and has done nothing but work on old ford tractors and old fords in general since the late 40's. The truck is a model 79. Thanks again for all time and responses.
