Default Possible bad coil

My 1935 ford is difficult to start after I have run it for about 10 miles. If I let it sit until the engine cools down it starts immediately. I suspect that I have a bad coil but would welcome any comments or advice that anyone can give me. Thanks for your help.

Does it turn over as fast when it's hot as it does cold? There's currently another thread going on this very subject.

I had a coil act up once where when it got hot it broke down and quit. It would do this to me while driving. It was like I threw the ignition switch "off". It is possible.

the first thing to do on a no start is see if you are getting a good spark. if not, it could be the coil but it may also be the condenser which would be the first thing to replace. if you determine its the coil its better getting yours rebuilt than buying a new one.

Yep. Bad coil or bad condenser. Both will often work fine when cold, but then fail when warm. (not warm from under-hood temperature, warm from operating under electrical load) I don't know how to tell which is the culprit since both give the same weak-spark symptom.

6 volt electrical systems operate at much higher amperage loads. I think todays repop/rebuilders fail to build to NOS specs

Check your ignition resistor also. I had one that would not fail completely. And drove me nuts trying to find the problem

Run a wire direct from battery to top of coil see if it starts if it does likle battery voltage to low to start ith the ignition resistor in the ckt.

But srt by bypassing all the other possabilities first
