Yes, will be radiusing the wheel wells. That will start soon and I'll be posting pics of the fab work. I'm looking for someone now that can make us up the fender lips to weld on. Anyone in the Cali central valley area have access to a Pullmax??

On gasser falcons they use mustang rear lips. May or may not work in this apt.

Hanging the wheels out will look great. To me a more 60s setup.

Yes, the rear wheels will hang out a bit and 60's look is def the goal. They are 10" tires and most will be under the car. I'll look into the mustang lips. Thanks for the tip.

The rear is almost out. I've been down with a back injury so my son has been learning how to turn wrenches. The 8" should be out this weekend. Anyone looking for one?

Talk to me about rear wheels for the Canned Monster. What size should I go with and why. 15x8.5, 15x10, or 16x10. Tires will be 10" wide. Give me the pros and cons of each of these. I need to make a decision soon. GO!

I'm no expert on wheel types for drag racing, but seems the 15X8.5 or 15X10 would be more period correct for a 10" slick. I think the 16" wheels were more for the dragsters of the early 60's and more like 12" wide slicks.
A slotted aluminum wheel similar to the old Halibrand magnesium wheels would look correct in the rear and maybe a gray center 5 spoke in the front.

yes, I am looking at the Halibrand style wheels for the back and most likely the 8.5" size. Thats the feedback I am getting from many sources.

Got some decals made of the monster.

So, back to the wheel sizing, I'm going to go with 15x8.5 for the rear size. The car is headed to a local shop this week where they will get the wheel wells cut and the mock up wheels in place to do some measuring so we have an idea for back space. The mopar rear is slightly wider than the 8" coming out.

Great progress, so far. More pictures needed soon. I have always been a gasser fan. I just wish there were more gassers being built today.

My son swapped the diffs on the 56 over the weekend and then had to put the 8" backs since the ubolts wouldn't go around the mopar tubes.

Oh well, the car will be heading to the local hot rod shop, Modesto Rod & Custom in a couple of days so they can start on the suspension.

Got the gas tank pulled (anyone looking for one) and some other parts pulled out. The 8" will be for sale once it comes back out very soon.

Just curious, is that the stock '56 rear end? If so it's not an 8".

The one photo shows two rears, one is the mopar thats going in, the other is the 8" thats coming out. Why do you think its not an 8"?

The 8 in. Ford rear end (the one used in the 60's) is very similar to the 9 in. where the pinion bolts into the front of the carrier with 5 bolts. I don't see that set up on either rear end. The original rear end in a 56 was used in cars between 49 to 56. Very weak rear end. If you had a wagon or sedan delivery it came with a Dana.

You are correct. Its not an 8", just the factory '56 rear. If anyone needs one drop me a line. I have no use for it.
