What is this bracket for?
Can some one tell me what this bracket is for?
It is in front of the transmission mount on left side just behind where the steering assembly mounts. |

That is the ball stud that locates the LEFT end of the tubular clutch shaft that operates your throw-out fork mechanism. Clear as mud, right? Looks like a '40? DD

clutch pedal ball, I know it looks bad but do not throw it out, hard to find, and can be brazed back to original fairly easily.

Re: What is this bracket for?
I have 3 or 4 of them in my parts, at least one still in the wrapper.

Re: What is this bracket for?
Good eye. It is a '40. My '39 pickup frame was pretty rough so I bought another...this '40 frame.
I didn't see this bracket on my '39 so wondered what it was and if I needed it. |

Re: What is this bracket for?
The '40 was the first year to use that ball. '39 clutch and brake pedal assembly (which is totally different than '40) pushes on the clutch arm in a much different manner than '39. And, the frame almost had to be '40 'cuz the channel member that that bracket is bolted to completely reversed the direction the channel faces on '41-'48. Frame had to be a '40, or MAYBE a '41 pick-up which used the carry-over '40 frame. DD

Re: What is this bracket for?
Also the U-shaped under the frame reinforcement was added in 40 to strengthen the frame in the clutch attachment area and prevent stress cracks. You will not need it for 39.

Re: What is this bracket for?
It is the same as the 7507 in the diagram that V8Coopman provided. I believe that the passenger one (yours) was flat and the F-1 was as depicted in the diagram. As always make sure that it is in good shape and I would advise that you get mew bushings (7513) , (those may be the 2 piece split ones?) and washer (7539). Might as well add a new spring (7545) also. Easier to do it now than after it's all back together.
C&G has all these parts. I just went through this adventure on my F1. |
