49-50 Merc intermediate bellhousing
I've been buying some 49/50 Merc stamped steel intermediate bell housings that I clean up and resell to my customers buying my T5 Kit if they can't find one. Today as I was loading them in my truck to take to the blasters I noticed one was about a 1/2 inch deeper than the others. Anyone know what this fits as it sure won't work with my kits. Thanks

Re: 49-50 Merc intermediate bellhousing
I have a couple 6 cylinder bell housings. They are the same depth as the V8 just with a different bolt pattern where they bolt to the block. This bell housing has the V8 bolt pattern.

Re: 49-50 Merc intermediate bellhousing
I sold the deeper version I had to a fella on the barn here that needed it for a 6. Never heard back from him, so I have to assume it fit. Different bolt pattern I believe, and about 1/2" deeper. There was a thread on here, his was damaged some how, last winter I believe

I'd figure it must be for an industrial application but I certainly don't know what that might be. I don't know of any other transmissions that match the Mercury stamped steel half bell mounting but have a longer intput shaft. |

Re: 49-50 Merc intermediate bellhousing
The 1949-51 Mercury Chassis Manual lists two separate bellhousing assemblies NOT used with with automatic transmissions. One part # is 8CM-6392 used in 1949-51 Mercs and then another with part # 1CM-6392 used in 1951 Mercs.
Part # AC 6392-D is also shown for use in 1952 Mercs with non-automatic transmissions. |

Re: 49-50 Merc intermediate bellhousing
The bell housing that came about for most of the 1951 Mercury production is a big full cast iron bell housing that is very similar to the ones used in 1952 & 53 in Ford and Mercury cars but they all had swing pedals. The 51 Mercs were till frame mounted.
