Default 36 BOLT ON rear Panhard bar?

Does anyone offer a bolt on rear Panhard bar kit for a 36?
I'm running a 36 Columbia with a Posie reverse eye rear spring.
About to put some longer shackles on.
Not too keen on welding anything on if I can help it.

Are you running 36 axle housings? If so, and you want to lower your car, a better way in my opinion than longer shackles and reversed eye spring, is to make up some lowering blocks that fit in between radius rods and axle housings. That's what I run...I suppose you want to see photos?

Hi Brian,

Regarding "a better way in my opinion than longer shackles and reversed eye spring, is to make up some lowering blocks that fit in between radius rods and axle housings", anything can be done but this would be an aw3ful lot of work. If you had a plate that mounted on the bottom two backing plate bolts, the mounting would be below these two. The backing plates are recessed where the four bolts mount and if the new mounting is below the existing two lower bolts, you would have to extend the backing plate recess lower.

If you had longitudinal springs, what you suggest works great and is what I did with my 56 Chevy rear under my 40 Ford. I had a spring shop make up about eight short lengths at the same time I had a new main spring made.

Transverse spring in my 32

Longitudinal springs with "spring blocks" in my 40

There may be a kit somewhere but you will have to research that yourself.
I have seen several different versions of home made Panhard or so called "sway bars". Quite simple to fabricate. A bracket that bolts under the same bolts that hold the wishbone to the backing plates and a bracket that bolts under the spring clamp bolts. A short piece of tubing and two tie rod ends.
Adjust the length with the car sitting normally on the ground.

Johndee, yes, the principle is the same...whereas those particular ones are fabricated, I machined mine up out of steel [I am a machinist]..The ones I made and fitted to my car lower it by 1 5/8"...but they can be made to suit any amount [within reason]. Originally when I fitted mine, I also fitted a reversed eye main leaf...whilst it looked good, it was too low, insufficient suspension travel, so I reinstalled the original main leaf.

Bit hard to crawl under my rig and photograph the lowering block at present...my vehicle hoist is currently in use holding up a customers car...however, I crawled underneath the old 35 and took a shot..., also took a couple of the car itself. It has an okie joe 2" [over stock] dropped axle up front and 175 R 16 radials, the back is lowered 1 5/8" via the lowering blocks and rims are shod with 205R 16" radials. Fitting reversed eye springs front and/or back, lowers that respective end a further 1" but ride is compromised.
I personally think those 3" lowering blocks mentioned earlier in the thread would lower the car too much; the axle would just about be on the bump stops whilst unladen....
