Balist like this - who has?
This ballast came off my 32 Ford with a 12 volt conversion.
I believe I burned it up by keeping the ignition switch on all night. Do you know where I could get another just like it? |

Are you sure you've cooked it? I'd think it more likely you've burnt out the coil if ignition has been left on....

Re: Balist like this - who has?
I'm with Brian... I don't see a burned out area. Just yucky cruddy. Put an ohm meter across the posts. Somewhere back in the ancient archives, one should find a 'fix' for these things... like, a good cleaning on the ends of the coil, and soldering those joints. I believe acid flux solder was recommended. I know I did this on the resistors for both of my cars, and they both became totally functional.
And.... if your 32 has a 12V conversion, why is this resistor still being in the circuit. I'd suggest thinking this through again. |

Looks like an original 0.5 ohm ballast for an original coil. Not high enough for a 12 volt coil. Should be about 1.5 ohms. |

Re: Balist like this - who has?
I don't think anyone produces a 1.3 to 1.5 Ohm ballast resistor that looks like an old OEM one. Some folks just use a 3-Ohm type coil and bypass the resistor completely for 12-volt conversions. If a 1.5 Ohm coil is used then a ballast is required.

Re: Balist like this - who has?
You should be able to determine if you toasted it by using an ohm meter to see if it still has continuity.
