spindle swap 36 to 37
I'm gathering the bits for a spindle swap on my 36. I redid the front end a few years back with new kingpins and bushes. I want to run the round back spindles and later wheels. Can I rebush the later spindles and use my 36 kingpins since they have very little time on them, or do I need a later style KP and bearing arrangement. Stock 36 axle & spindles, Lincoln backing plates, wide 5 drums and wheels on the car now.
also if I do this swap can I switch out the wheel/drum combo from wide5 to 5 on 5 1/2 depending on what look I am going for at the moment? I am looking for some 15x4"-5 0n 5 1/2" wheels as well. |

I'm not sure the brakes, drums and wheels you have now will fit on the 37 roundbacks. No you can't use your kingpins. Yes, you need the 37 kingpins. Yes, you can use 40-48 type 5 on 5.5" drums, but you might need other lincoln type backing plates or 39-48 type ford type. Pickup wheels (and Mercs) used 15" 5 on 5.5 wheels. The pickups use the innie type hubcap nubs. Mart. |
