Horn Rod Disassembly

I’ve removed the rod from the steering column, have bent the 4 tabs under the button up straight, but the retainer around the horn button will not budge. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging anything ?

i bore a hole in a piece of wood just a little bigger then the ring stand the rod up so the ring is in the hole and use a small hammer and tap it out.
