Canadian 1950 F-47 (F1) V8 Engine Color
The Canadian F-47s engine blocks were painted a beige color in 1950.
Does anyone know what the exact color is? I know some people have been using Cummins Beige. I've been wondering if Ford sprayed the blocks with the same Tuscan Tan they used on the front grill that year. I've attached a couple pictures. One is from a picture I found on the internet of a Canadian truck with the correct color, and the other is a picture of my transmission with the remains of the original paint. Any help would be appreciated! Kirk |

Re: Canadian 1950 F-47 (F1) V8 Engine Color
My '52 Canadian built Ford F1, still has some of the original paint on the transmission. I also can see this same color in a few corners of the engine block after it came back from the hot tank. I would describe it as beige or off-white. I am attaching two photos of the trani side cover with the cap of a can of Dupli-color engine enamel Cummins Beige CDE1638.
Close enough for me. ...Terry |

Terry,
You're right that is pretty close. Cummins beige is nice because you can also easily get it in rattle cans or quarts if you want to spray it from a gun. KBS Coatings Lists it here: https://www.kbs-coatings.com/engine-paint.html Maybe on the weekend I'll get a chance to compare the front grill color to the remaining paint on my transmission. Kirk |

So far the three options I've found are: 1. Cummins Beige 2. Packard Ivory 3. 1954 Ford Passenger Cream My very unscientific paint chip comparison is visible in the picture below. The BMS-6000 is the 1954 Passenger Cream, but who knows how close any of these are to the actual color. Trying to compare scanned paint chips, to a photo of a dirty old transmission doesn't work well. |

I have a can of that Cummins beige, and to me, it's too much grey to match the Ford colour. The "RV white" that the motorhomes and travel trailers used is a lot closer.

Re: Canadian 1950 F-47 (F1) V8 Engine Color
About two weeks ago I contacted Ford Heritage Canada, to see if they could shed any light on what colour engine paint they may have used.
They were kind enough to call me and tell me they have no information in their available documentation. So I guess the only way to get an exact match would be to try and take it down and get it colour matched by a paint colour reader. One of the helicopters I maintain has a yellow tint beige color that comes close to what you are looking for but the only place I could find a rattle can to match it was for home appliances and I can't find the can to ID the maker. It is almost like the beige that was used as camouflage in North Africa during WWII.

Re: Canadian 1950 F-47 (F1) V8 Engine Color
I have read that all Canadian F-47s (F1s) came with V8s and the larger oil filtration system to match the Canadian military spec at the time. With the Korean war starting on June 25th, 1950 its entirely possible that the beige paint was also part of that specification. I'm sure a lot of Ford trucks went over to Korea with the Canadian troops.

Pale Cream No. 52
Light Stone No. 61 These were two of the standard camo paints designated for Canadian Mil spec during world war 2. (In particular the Light Stone was designated as the colour to be used for equipment going to North Africa / Egypt in WW2) Kirk

You might check the biscuit color used on home appliances. It's lighter than some. Rustoleum has it in epoxy spray rattle cans. I would prefer straight enamel though since it can take the heat very well. I'm sure that enamel paint is what was used originally. Lacquer and epoxy don't like the heat much.

The engine out of my 52 Ford was Canadian. I wanted to paint it Canadian color. Since I was not looking for the "truth", I went with Cummins Beige. Here is a photo.
