Ebrake wont engage
So now that Rusty runs and brakes I decided to put the ebrake short rod on from ebrake handle to cross shaft. When pulling back on lever there is not enough to engage parking brake. I thought that if I tilted the cross shaft back at a 7 o'clock position (the legs) I would get the leverage need to pull ebrake levers forward. Well the adjustable rods are all the way in and I'm a good inch off from connecting to cross shaft. Suggestions?

Re: Ebrake wont engage
Maybe your e-brake rods are not the right length....the rods from the cross shaft to the e-brake lever in the drum need to be about 41".....
Also the rod from the lever to the cross shaft were different lengths..according to Bratton's up to July 29 they were 20 3/4"...after that 18 3/4"..the earlier rods had an eye on one end and yoke on the other and passed through a hole in the frame.. The center mount brake handle used the longer rod.. One of mine was too short ( threaded end broken off) and my new e-brake's would not release

Re: Ebrake wont engage
Mine are about 42" from clevis eye center to rod end eye center, measured on the truck so not 100% accurate......this is with new ebrake bands and new drums....

Re: Ebrake wont engage
I'm going to wait on a buddy to put some pressure on lever. I'm almost there but not enough for wheel not being able to turn.

Re: Ebrake wont engage
Is there a way to adjust the e-brake on my '29 Roadster? I can't find anything in the Les Andrew's red book on that. I pull the brake lever as far back as I can but it won't hold the car, I have to put a chuck under the wheel. Also, it might be me, but I have to use two thumbs to push the button as I pull back on the lever to disengage the brake.
Thanks, David Serrano |

Re: Ebrake wont engage
Just to supplement what Bob wrote....if you move the rod it will have to pass through this hole in the cross member. The other end is just an eye so it will fit through...
i think with my new drums and bands I may move it to the more distant hole...
