Removing drivers window on '29 Pickup
I am trying to remove the glass, to replace, on the driver's door of my 1929 Model A pickup. The issue is, getting the glass "out the top of the door". I have 3 screws at the top of the door and that is it. Those 3 screws are on the side / top, where you can see them when the door is open, not up top looking down. The manual just says lift it out thru the top...Those 3 screws, on the window frame are the only thing I can see holding the frame on. The frame goes down both sides, but again I cannot see how that is held on, except those 3 screws.
Appreciate your help Dean |

Dean, that frame with the 3 screws, slides Down, on tracks. With the screws out, you will tap that frame upwards and it should start to slide up. Keep working it off, up. Then it will come off. You will see the tracks that it fastens to as you start moving it upwards.

Re: Removing drivers window on '29 Pickup
There appears to be a lip it slides over on the bottom, to connect with the bottom portion of the door. I have tried "gently tapping" it up and going nowhere quickly. Are there spring clips in the door frame for those legs that go down the side of the window?

Use a short section of 1"x4" hardwood placed under the lip of the horizontal piece at the top of the door. Working back and forth tap on the wood with a hammer to get it to slide up.
Once it moves a bit you may need to tap it back down and start going up again in order to get it loosened up.

One of the responses say "there are screws that you can not see directly behind the verticle sections of the door sill"...where are they?

Re: Removing drivers window on '29 Pickup
Nothing hidden that needs to come off other than the three screws across the top. I Believe the hidden ones referred to in an earlier post may be the ones that hold the tracks in place that the trim piece slides on.
Perhaps gently warming the vertical pieces with a torch will help if you don't have good paint to worry about and you are careful not to catch the window channel felts on fire.

Re: Removing drivers window on '29 Pickup
I got a replacement window installed. One problem is the window does not stay in the bottom tray when rolling the window down. Do I need to put adhesive in there? or thin rubber or welting?? or try squeezing the trough together abit?...The kit I bought had side and top rails but nothing for the bottom...What do you recommend?

Re: Removing drivers window on '29 Pickup
You put the channel on the glass bottom before you fit it but I guess you know that but in case you dont . I use thin rubber around the glass bottom . I nip the channel up a bit in the vise so i get a tight fit I have not used any glue type stuff I put the glass vertically on the wooden bench and tap the channel down with a mallet . I have never ever had the channel come off the glass in approx 8 windows in CCPU/AA trucks over several years , One word of advice the powder coating on the channel is cr*p I have a cracked glass in my 31 CCPU as rust had swollen the channel and caused a vertical crack in the laminated glass .BUMMER !!!
