Default Death of oldest liscensed flying pilot

Ernie Smith (Red Oak, Iowa) passed away at 103. At 100 he was still flying. Ernie took me up in my 65hp cub and did a loop, we survived!

May his soul rest in peace! He’s flying higher than he ever flew before!

Ernie Smith would have been an interesting bloke to talk with. I reckon he could have told some interesting stories.

I once had a short conversation with a fellow who test flew the engine type used on the Concorde. These were mounted on a British Volcan Bomber and the only radio/nav gear he had was a VHF radio.

I have always regretted not having a long conversation with this fellow. Opportunity gone and lost forever. Likewise for Ernie Smith.

That is indeed the passing of an icon! Regrets but sounds like he enjoyed life
Not to hijack but we had a older pilot here in chattanooga who’s license was signed by Orville Wright; it used to be in the local history museum. It closed... I think permenantrly.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Garber, curator of the Smithsonian years ago. His license was signed by Orville as well.

I hope I'm flying at 100!

There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots.

Bob Hoover made it to 94, he was pretty bold, but well practiced.

It's that quote that's old and it's a silly one too.
