28-29 vs 30-31 forged front fender brackets...
Just how does one tell the difference between the 28-29 and the 30-31 forged steel front fender brackets?
Thanks. Pluck |

Bolt holes for the headlight bar are spaced differently from the frame 28-29 vs 30-31. Bob

The shape of the fenders and thus the shape of the brackets are DRAMATICALLY different! '28-29 fenders have a very narrow crown while the '30-31 fenders have quite a broad crown. Once you focus on the shape you can spot the difference at 30 feet!

Another way to tell them apart at a glance is to check the flange where the bracket bolts to the frame:
On the 1928-29's the flange is much thicker at the lower bolt hole than it is for the 2 upper bolts. As well, the lower uses a 1/2" bolt while the 2 upper ones are 3/8". The 1930 brackets have the thinner flange uniform for all 3 holes and use all 3/8" bolts to attach. |

What Randy said is correct. I find it the easiest way to tell them apart even though as Marco said, the crown or arc on the top is much wider io the 30 brackets than the 28/29's. The lower mounting bolt hole is the way to differentiate the two - thin 30 hole, thick hole 28/29.
