Default Hi from a newbie, older than dirt tho

I've been lurking here some this winter so will hop on the band wagon and do some flatheadin. I have some Ford rolling stock in the garage, 36 logtruck, 46 half toNeed n pickup. Been messing with this stuff for 25 plus yrs and drove a lot of it in my youth. My dad had several 30s and 40s cars I can recall, one was a 34 4dr sedan, real nice car with a later flathead in it.
Presently tearing into a 36 engine to see if it's worth keeping. Been beating the bushes looking for valve removal tools and have found some locally. Need the tool that hooks into the keeper on top of the spring to pull it out. Does anyone know where one of these can be bought, begged or stolen? I plan to tear it down and have it checked to see if it's a keeper. Evening guys.

welcome to the 'Barn....and if you can pull down the guide, you should be able to pull out the keeper .....but if you're looking for the tool, i think Flathead Jack has it in his catalog....Mike

Me and dis computer aren't mated very well so getting around here on this site will take some time, like the next decade. Pic's are somewhere after that.......However I did find some of the right tools this week for pulling the valves on this 36 block. Mixed up some potion of ATF and laquer thinner and dumped it in. Been mighty cold here last few days and hard to heat up the garage so when weather breaks for the better I'll get er done. Thanks for the welcome guys, also have a 55 Merc with a really good yblock in it that I'm going to pull the 2x4 set up off this winter. Watch dem knuckles guys.

Thanks for the welcome guys and I have a progress report. I scavanged up some tools from two guys in the area, one was a good friend and I showed him pic's of tools that I downloaded off this site . The tool I needed was the keeper removal tool and he had two of them, didn't know what it was for. Bought it with a valve grinder and it was included along with a bunch of other tools. Took us 90 minutes to pull all valves today, had to torch off 3. The big C clamp compressor tool popped out really good, keeper pulled out good too. Nuff for a Sunday and will strip rest out of the block in the near future. Life is great with a Ford V8!

Another progress report. Finished stripping the block today. Everything is out and next step is to send out for block cleanup and check for cracks. Was bored .60 and a few cylinder walls ain't looking too good. It's a late style 36 block without any LB markings, no numbers on clutch housing, cast heads. Has insert bearings, better breathing system and water plugs in oil pan to block rail. If it can be saved I'll sell it for someone wanting a rebuild job. Don't have a use for it myself and have a good EAB engine for a spare.
