Default What year is this bumper?

Can anyone tell me what year Ford this bumper came from? I think itsa '40, but there's another guy who swears itsa '41. He took it off his '41.

I did a Google image search and see a lot of '41s with a smooth bumper like this, but I was assuming they were switched after the factory. I always figured the stock '41 came with a bumper with a small rib at the bottom.

Surely you saw the MODIFIED '41 that bumper came off of. I'd guess it's a '40 bumper! Pic below shows a stone stock '41 bumper! DD

Actually, There were two different Bumpers on the 41 Fords. The Deluxe models got the Smooth Bumper, while the Super Deluxe models got the Bumper with the Ridge down the bottom. Please refer to the above photos of each model.

The green bible show the smooth bumper as a non deluxe and the ribbed one as a super deluxe.

That's from a '41 Special model. The bar looks a lot like a '40 passenger car bar. However, the holes are spaced differently.

I wonder if the wings were an accessory. My Pop's old 41 11A Special didn't have the wings.

The 2 ribs on the back of the 41 Special bumper are spaced quite a bit farther apart then the 2 on the back of the 40 bumpers. The outside looks the same but as Kube says, hole spacing is different.

Yep, that's my Pop. He was a pilot and spent most of his combat time as copilot. Since he made it though without getting shot down, he came home with a lot of photographs of his experience in the 15th AAF out of Italy. The photo of him with the 41 was taken by my uncle on his return to the farm in Kansas right after he got back to the US.

He purchased the used 1941 Tudor after he got back in 1945 and used it for a few years to finish up his college education. Before he went overseas, he had an old 1935 Ford standard flat back tudor sedan that got him all over the US from Iowa to California then on to Texas and Florida. He sold it before his group flew there brand new B17Gs overseas to Tunisia, North Africa where they flew their first missions. They then went on to Foggia Italy where they based for the rest of the war. My Avatar was taken in Foggia right after they arrived there.

Thanks for the reply. Your Dad and all the others that flew those missions are all hero's in my book. In addition to your pictures, I hope you have some audio of his experiences. We have to keep the original history from that national experience alive. Keeping with this thread, I once owned a '41 short door coupe and the bumpers were like the one on your Dad's car.
