Default Cluster Gear Questions

Did FORD make any manual transmissions that had a 27 tooth cluster gear? I looked in the BIG GREEN BOOK and none are listed.

What year make and model FORDs used the 28 tooth cluster gear with the part # 48-7113? The BIG GREEN BOOK shows part # 48-7113A, but not 48-7113.

Thank you.

That's probably because the green book coverage ends in 1948. Have had gearsets based on this but may have been open drive and later profile teeth. Wild guess, ask a guy with a '55 Thunderbird. Unfortunately Such questions don't get much play because it ranges beyond the common stuff. As for the '35 style cluster, seems like few people use those older gears cause they are harder to rebuild than the 1939+ gearsets with the improved synchros. Often found in a bucket full of gears, ten bucks or free at the end of the day. No cue the informing mob! Good Luck: Fred A

The two most common were the 15/29 (input/cluster) and the 16/28 for passenger cars and commercials. the 16/28 with the 3.78:1 rear axle were the most common.

The 27T cluster came in the early 50's in the F1 type open drive line transmissions. Do not attempt to mix them with the earlier gears, you will have problems.

That said, the complete 27T gearset will fit in the earlier sideshift cases, I'm not sure of the gears being able to be used with the 91A "wide fork" though.

According to Mac'S Transmission book Cluster Gear 1A-7113A has 27-23-17-13 teeth. It was used '51 - '54 in passenger cars and '48 - '51 in trucks. It works with Main dirve gear 1C-7017, 2nd speed gear 1A-7102A, 1st speed 1A-7100A

FoMoCo redesigned the transmissions for 1951. The tooth profile looks more diamond shape that the early type gears. No intermixing can be done with earlier stuff as was already mentioned. The inputs were usually 1-inch 10 spline. A far cry from the 1 3/8 inch 10-spline of the earlier types. They use different clutches with the 1 inch 10-spline main drive gear.

I believe 48-7113-A and 48-7113 are the same cluster 28-24(both helix)-18-15(both straight) with the 28 tooth gear being 0.727 wide, I believe they use the B-7129 rear thrust washer with five tabs.
