Default Irritating rattle. Sugestions ?

I have an irritating rattle. The light switch. One needs to hold it to stop it. If I put some anti rattle packing in, otherwise known as cardboard it does work. But each time I turn a corner the lights switch on.
I don't really want to remove the rod.
Help please.

Try some felt as a bushing and oil it, it should solve the rattle. It can be fixed like new for a bit of money and time, but it's better than cardboard.

At first I was going to ask if the weather is cold outside, the grease inside column gets thick and rod drags when wheel is turned ... Then I remembered my visits to Darwin and Sydney Christmas 1968 and decided that would not be a problem today.

Do you have the bushing on the horn rod?

Have not tried to install one without removing the rod though.

As Benson noted there is a bushing (split) at the top end of the horn rod. It can help and sometimes hurt as well on some horn rods. Sometimes horn rods turn for a number of reasons. The bushing (brass) helps with electrical connectivity and rattle noise. , also sometimes Not enough spring tension from horn rod spring can cause issue.

My town sedan right now has one and it is on my winter list.... I have also used a small washer underneath on an occasion or two. To do it in the car remove the keeper and spring and pull the horn rod up a bit. You can check for the split bushing. I believe you should be able to install it by spreading only enough to install it and then reform around the rod and into the steering shaft.

Hopefully this will fix it. of course if it's an open car it is an easy task. I see your avatar shows a roadster pickup so maybe it's an easy one.
Make sure you have the spring below and it is sufficient as well.

Is your horn rod original (length) with the 7 tooth or 2 tooth steering setup?

Hi Juke. It's a seven tooth set up. I'm looking to change another vehicle to a two tooth but this one will remain a seven. cheers, gary
