Re: iddle problem
There's an adjustable anti-stall dash pot on the left side of the carb that slows the closing of the throttle linkage.

Re: iddle problem
The OP didn't say whether he has an automatic or a manual transmission. If he has a manual there is no dashpot.

Does it run OK around town?

Re: iddle problem
Same thing happened to my Holley 2100 couple years ago and I assumed something wrong with carburator. Pulled carb off and put on one of my reserve rebuilt carbs (I've got 3 spare carbs always ready to install).
Took it out and ran it on highway again, but when I got into town, couldn't keep it going without manually throttling up in neutral. Turns out, the crappy chinese made ignition condenser was faulty. Took it out and put an old used condenser in the distributor. Still using it trouble-free for all kinds of driving. |

Re: iddle problem
I also suggest keeping an eye on your fuel filter. Ethanol deposits are hard on these filters. I been having to replace filters once a year.

Re: iddle problem
... hmmph ...
Both good and important points. Ethanol will eat a cellulose fuel filter.

Re: iddle problem
I have a 1956 Thunderbird and do not have the dash pot. I determined that the original car was a manual, but when I bought it it was changed to an automatic. I haven’t yet got it on the road. I’m currently waiting for my brake booster to be rebuilt. I was told they could turn it around in a week, but 4 weeks later, still waiting.
Once I get it on the road, I’ll see if I have a stall problem. |
