Default 1949-51 Intake Manifolds

Below are two manifolds. On the left is an 8RT & an 8CM on the right. QUESTION: What is the larger opening (plugged) on the 8RT used for? This is not present on the 8CM but the 8CM does have a fitting (NOT plugged) on the lower right of the manifold which is not present on the 8RT.

Are BOTH of these fittings for vacuum...when needed?

Since the 8RT was a truck engine, I'd guess the large opening was vacuum for a brake booster. Vacuum assisted hydraulic brakes were fairly common on trucks of that era.
