Where were the Wagons Built?
My Wagon was built in Dallas according to the Patent Plate.
I looked at another 56 Wagon PP and it read Los Angeles. Question, were our Wagons built at different Ford Plants? How many Plants were needed for our Wagons and other models? I believe I toured a Ford Plant in Southern CA in the early 60's Any history knowledge out there? |

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?
I just remembered there was also a Ford plant in Pico Rivera, CA (L.A. area )
in the early 60's. Could that be the one you remembered ? |

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?
I think I figured out that my '54 Ranch Wagon was built in either Michigan or Ontario. Can't recall which, but I think it was in that general part of the world. Been a while, so I'll have to check my data plate and check the manual when I'm up at the storage unit again. (I could be all wrong...I've had too many old cars in the last 15 years! ) I'll post the info when on this thread when I find out.

Jim, if you have the Title for the car at home, you can tell the assembly plant code from that, without making a trip to the storage facility. Sal |

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?
Way back, Henry bought miles of nearly worthless woods in poor ground in the UP. When woodies were really built of hard wood, the bodies were built in the UP, then stacked fire wall down in box cars and sent to assembly plants.

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?
It was my understanding that at least the first years woodies were assembled enough to ship to an outside woodworking factory and they wood finish the cars.
There was no way an assembly line could put those wagons together with unskilled workers moving that fast. |

Re: Where were the Wagons Built?
Okay, so it looks like my '54 Ranch Wagon was actually built in Kansas City. I'd looked it up years ago and that was actually one of the locations floating around in my memory, but as I said, it's easy to mix it up with other cars, especially when many of them are FoMoCo, too.
