Default Trimming intake gasket to port

I have heard of this. Are the benefits worth doing it?

It is normally done the other way around, the port in the block is matched to the gasket. Guess it might depend on the gasket you are using, but most of the ones I have seen are fairly precise.

If the gasket is causing an obstruction in the air flow path. Why not trim it?

JS I think that is what I was thinking, matching ports to gasket. My engine rebuilder mentioned that he did that. I am putting on a new manifold ,so I will check it out.

If your putting a new manifold on I would match the gasket to the block and than match the gasket to the manifold.
If the block was ported every little bit helps

"Back in the day", What ever that means, they made a big bore intake gasket. I don't eel that's necessary for a street engine. However you can make your own port matching gasket by using part of the box the gasket came in and tapping it around the block ports, then comparing it to the intake manifold. This will show you the miss match, if any.
