Front Radius rods
I have read that the Mercury wheel base is 4 inches longer than the Ford and that extra was added forward of the firewall. Does that mean that the front radius rods "Bones" are longer.
Thanks Thomas |

Re: Front Radius rods
You don't mention what year but I know from my 1939 Ford parts catalog that the first year Mercury 1939 used the same front radius rod the #78 that was made for 1937-1941 Fords. The green bible only shows Ford using the 1942-1948 front radius rod and I don't have a Mercury parts book, bet Ford made it work for Mercury these years also as they did the engine.

Re: Front Radius rods
Thanks. I was not sure when the Merc went from 114 in to 118 in wheel base. Was it 41 or 42? the extra 4 inches might not have had any effect as the rear wishbone ball pivot could have been moved forward 4 inches. Just curious.

Re: Front Radius rods
'41 up Mercs had a stretched front end...frame was same basic components as Ford with front crossmember slid forward, front rods were same as Ford with a special bracket for the ball added to frame to move it forward. Frame also got added motor mount plates to reach back to the motor.
