Default 2 tooth steering gear box

Les Andrews, instructions says to have the slotted rivet at the bottom of the gear box pointed vertical.

Is that vertical pointed at the sector shaft, or vertical as when it is mounted in the car?

Thanks
JB

The sector shaft. That being said, I have had the screw anywhere between vertical and two o'clock.

I pondered that for a while too. His instructions are sometimes ambiguous, sometimes right, sometimes just plain wrong.
That said, I've used his books many times as a reference.

Adjust the screw using the directions in the Ford Service Bulletins.

Les has nice pictures. Do not trust what he says in details. He also lacks reasonable details in determining if parts are good or bad. In fact a couple of details are just wrong and have been kept through many revisions.

And he doesn't seem to know there is such a thing as a RHD Model A.
At least he says when installing the con rods that the openings in the scoop on the caps should face the camshaft. I've seen some parts suppliers say it should face the passenger side - a sure fire way to destroy an engine. I wonder how readily those suppliers would accept liability for that???
