Default Upholstery questions

Hi guys, getting to the seat cushions that came with my basket of parts 28 sport coupe, three cushions are done, one is not. Questions are, 1. is this seat back for the rumble tacked together correctly or should they have used hog rings

2. This looks like an original cushion. Where the fabric looks like it is crimped in place around/at the bottom, do I pry it apart and recrimp the new cover in, or do I just cut the fabric off as close as I can and wrap the new fabric around the bottom and hog ring in place?

YouTube links are great for showing how to work with the wooden frame cushions, and showing assembly of a stripped seat, just not sure if this crimp is salvageable or repeatable when redoing the seat.

First off,...I don't know much about upholstery...but this will get you back too the top..

In the first photo,......yes that it the back cushion for the lid. It should have 2 clips that
slip in at the bottom and 2 at the top that gets screwed too the lid..

Second photo,...that metal piece (sheet metal), I think is a big deal. It looks like it's
original,...I think it's a nice piece..

How all the upholstery is done / held down,..I don't know. Try Marco's sight for more
details.

I should have been more clear maybe on my first question. I know that's the rumble seat back, and how the tabs work, what I was wondering was if it's supposed to be nailed like that through the material to the metal frame?

Thank you for the link, I checked out a barnyard.com but no info on the bottom cushion rim or how to recover the seat.

My Grandfathers 1940 B JD. I've got her in for a valve job right now and a little tlc.

And thanks for the info gents. I also called Lebarron Bonney this afternoon and they said that the compression ring on the seat bottom is next impossible to remove/duplicate but that was the way Ford did it from new (at least on an early 28)

How confusing. One member says hog rings were not used on a Model A and two others say they were used. By now the poster must be totally confused ! Wayne

What Don said X 2. That had me wondering also.

When my brother's house was build they shot nails into a steel I beam, and the nails still had a sharp point. I'd never have dreamed that was possible had I not seen it.

Is there some sort of tack strip that is not showing in the photo? I've restored a few Model "A"s with rumble seats and don't remember ever seeing a rumble seat spring assembly that had a tack strip. And, I've never been successful at driving a tack into metal.

Lol, I didn't drive nails in....the guy doing the previous restoration did forty years ago, and he only recovered three of the four cushions. I have no idea why he did it that way, that's why I was wondering if it was correct or not, here's some more pics of the idiots handiwork

He had to have predrilled the nails, but they're right into the metal seat frame. Don't get me started on how the "gentleman" started recovering the bows with the supplied bow drill, only to leave it out and rot so I have to get/redo all the bow drill on the upper panels in the car and top as, pause for effect, after 40 years you can't match up what came in the kit [emoji35][emoji31][emoji24][emoji849]

As my Dad would have said...things like this build character

There are tacks with a spiral shank, that can be driven into metal. We used to hold them with needle nosed pliers & WHAM them into metal floorboards, to keep carpets in place. The tacks are a BLUEISH color, probably heat treated???
