1928 Sport Coupe running again after 20+ years
I have been working on the 1928 Model A Sport Coupe off and on all summer. The car had been setting covered in a garage for over 20 years. The previous owner only drove the car a couple of times after I last worked on it for her. I received a call about the car in April this year. They were moving and the car could not go with them. I got the first chance on the car and it was an offer I could not refuse. I picked the car up on April 22 about an hour and a half away from my home. The car was in the same town about 30 years ago.
I have checked just about everything and have been fixing things before actually trying to start it. I purposely left the gas tank dry and the radiator empty to avoid starting it and than neglecting the other items I wanted to do by driving it. Yesterday I finished the seat modifications. I moved the seat upright back 3 1/2 inches and shortened the seat bottom 2 inches to gain some leg room. It is still a little tight but much better. Today I filled the radiator and added a few gallons of gas. It started with about 8 to10 rotations of the crank. I thought that was really good. I seams to run a little rich. I want to double check the timing and float level. I drove it around the front and back yard. When I told my wife I was just going to drive around the yard she jumped in. I took a video of the starting but it must be too large to upload. Last edited by 1928 Sport Coupe; 08-28-2022 at 11:45 PM. |
