Default Ford COE water pumps

Are the flat head in the COE's water pumps the same as any other flat head?

Does anyone know a good source for them?

Thanks

Some larger trucks have dual belt sheaves but I'd have to look it up in the parts catalog for the W models to be sure. The base pump is the same for most 239 V8 engines. The sheaves are pressed on. There was also a 6-cylinder available in your trucks time frame but it would have been the 216 OHV engine unless yours is an F-6 series or larger. F7 & F8 had the Lincoln type V8 engines.

There were Ford car pumps and Mercury car pumps in addition to truck pumps so there are more than one type and there are different configurations with each type. If yours are single pulley truck pumps (8RT) then they are available from a lot of sources

Yes they are single pully pumps. Do you know of a source?

Thanks

Speedway, C&G, VanPelt Sales, and a lot of others carry them. The prices vary but they are all new pumps.

RevKev6, I doubt I'll see any loving there. I looked at the 1948 thru 1955 truck parts catalog and it doesn't list a dual belt water pump pulley sheave for any of the flat head 8RT 239 pumps. Y-blocks have a similar shaft ID to flatheads but they don't list any there either. My guess is that if they show up that they were a special item for fire trucks, buses, or industrial applications. I don't have information for the 337 or Y-block big truck applications (F7/F8) but they are likely different anyway. Chuck some aluminum bar stock in the lathe and turn some might be easier than finding them but you never know.

Bob C is the advice to heed. I sent my pumps to Skips last month and got them back lickity-split all nice with new impellers. Excellent service. If you don't want him to paint them just stick a note in the box. He supplies gaskets too. Paint is from Bill Hirsch, brushed on.

I agree. Skip has rebuilt two sets of pumps and a coil for me. All quality products, reasonably priced and with a relatively fast turn around.

First, if Mac VP sells it, I will buy it. Great service and great advice.

Second, I did send my old pumps to Skip. Did a great job and quick turn around.

Three, I used Bill Hirsch spray cans on my motor. Loved it. Will buy it again.

Thanks to this site for putting me in touch with the above vendors.

If it has hydraulics, it must have a dump bed. These items were generally aftermarket so a person has to find a cable long enough to work. Some older trucks had a lever to engage the PTO but most later ones went to using a large handle cable pull.
