47-48 inner fender differences?
Working on a 47 buisness coupe and I'm converting to modern airplane shocks on the front. I bought some NOS upper shock mounts for a 48(first year for these I think) and Ive got them all set up on the frame.
But, I just went out to my parts stash for something else and I have a couple front clips out there, and I just noticed they were different. The later(48) has indentions for the shock brackets built into the inner fender wells. Is it going to be necessary to change these. I'm guessing yes , but I never knew there was a difference. |

Re: 47-48 inner fender differences?
Tube shocks were adopted in mid 1947. The Ford stock mounts required a clearance between the inner fender and the mount, thus the "pocket". If you have the excellent Early Ford 41-48 book, you will find this subject discussed on page 4-10. Anyone with a Ford of those years needs to have that book. It is available in soft and hard cover, and will tell you more than you'll ever want to know about these Fords. If your mounts don't clear the fender liner, you can obtain the type that will from Chassis Engineering or other source.
