Re: Hinge Pin Mirror
I had tried the home made C-Clamp method for hours, and then I purchased the high quality Bratton's tool which made the hinge pin jump out of my S/W Cabriolet.
It was well soaked in Aero-Kroil and Kroil Silicone. |

Re: Hinge Pin Mirror
I did mine solo, but it was a project. I ended up pulling the pin, putting the mirror on and using the old pin to go up through the bottom of the hinge, then tapped in the threaded pin that came with the mirror down through the top while applying the correct torque on the door to make everything line up...on the right side. Left side I used a screwdriver or nail set to align the holes. I believe making it a 2 person job would make it much easier.

Re: Hinge Pin Mirror
I used the tool I got from Snyders and had no trouble at all with either side.

Re: Hinge Pin Mirror
You got the orig pins out OK, that's the big problem when doing this, NOT being able to get the pis out. Are the other hinges pinned and tight?? If so the mirror pin/bolt should go in with no trouble. JMO

Re: Hinge Pin Mirror
I used a C clamp to hold the two parts so the pin holes lined up. The idea of putting the old pin in the bottom also seems like a good way to get the holes to line up. My door was sprung a bit so that the holes in the door part did not line up with the part on the jam. Good luck-it just takes some time to see what is going on.

Re: Hinge Pin Mirror
Had a friend come over this evening and help me .My doors also would not line up without a little persuasion .We tried Shall's method . Put the mirror bracket on the hinge, sharpened the end of old hinge pin some , drove it up from the bottom ,then drove the new one down. The threads were ok on the new pin and attached nut and washer. Got both sides done in less than an hour.
Thanks everyone for your help. warren |
