Default Rear Backing Plate Mounting Bolt Nuts Too Long?

Trying to remount rear backing plates on my 28 TUDOR. I bought new bolts and nuts because old ones were worn. Bolts are fine. However the new nuts have a shoulder which makes them significantly taller than the old nuts. I am guessing that the shoulder is supposed to seat into the grease baffle plate which has spacers on the back mounted over the mounting holes. My problem is that the holes on the baffle plate are too small for the shoulders of the nuts and if the shoulders do not slip into the baffle plate spacers then the nuts are way too tall to insert a cotter pin. Is the easiest solution new grease baffle plates? Or should I drill out the holes on the baffle plates to allow the shoulder of the nuts to slide in?

Thanks in advance for your help.

TOTALLY DO NOT Drill out anything to make a REPOP bolt that is wrong to begin with fit, WAIT and go to a swap and find original bolts that will fit properly!!!!

Take the original nut to a Grainger's, Fastenal,Rumetco, or something similar to match
Just make sure the grade # matches(or could be greater).
Try a Google search.

The grease baffles I have are like the one pictured and take the nut
with the shoulder. The Ford parts book shows two different nut for the backing plates.
34031-S2 (was A-21791-S3) 7/16-20 (29/64 x 5/8 castle nut) 1928-36 and 351026-S 7/16-20 (43/64 x 5/8 castle nut) 1928-29

Can they be turned on a lathe to look and fit like the originals?

Thank you all. I know what I need to do. I think I will buy new baffles that are the later design and use the new nuts I have. Thanks for all the advice.
