pivoting windshield on Model A roadster
The windshield on my 31 A Deluxe roadster pivot won't lock. The wind blows it past the cowl seals. If I try to tighten the wing nuts all the way, the top won't go onto the top of the stancheons.
Any ideas of what's wrong? |

Re: pivoting windshield on Model A roadster
I have the same problem, but was able to tighten the wing nuts enough to solve. A guy told me he put sandpaper between the moving parts & that solved it for him.
Before I got mine tight enough the wind blew the windshield through & it hit the steering wheel hard enough to crack it. This design was for 40mph not 75 (mine is NOT stock). |

Re: pivoting windshield on Model A roadster
Thanks 'Greybeard' for your reply. I felt kind of stupid asking the question, but see I'm not the only one to have had the problem. Sorry abouit the broken windshield.
I'll try the sandpaper - but it seems there must be a correct fix for this. I see that some Model A Parts suppliers offer both a large and small cone for the stancheon. I wonder if one can insert an extra cone on each side. (?) |

FWIW
I've experienced the same problem. First the passenger side, which I was able to tighten, by using a tap to improve the threads on the wing nut. It is still holding. Now the driver's side is doing the same thing. Not sure if I have it tight enough. Will test it out first chance I get.. |

Re: pivoting windshield on Model A roadster
I have the same problem on both my 30 and 31 roadsters. I was hoping someone made a small bracket that would fit under the wind wing brackets on the bottom to keep it from going too far back. Not original but it should work.

No problem with that on mine so far. The rubber gasket keeps it from tilting too far. Of course I don't drive it over 50 either.

Re: pivoting windshield on Model A roadster
I have had a similar problem if I drive it to fast or I am driving into a headwind. Cleaning up the threads helped. It is worse when I open the windshield a bit to allow air in. I solved that with a small wooden block wedged between the windshield and body sheetmetal. Chuckle, but it works! Gar Williams

Re: pivoting windshield on Model A roadster
I have the same problem with my 31, some where on the ford barn I read where if u had the original cones, not the after market the window would stay open. I have been thinking on a solution for some time and I plan on making some kind of set up to hold the window open this winter when I put my car away, If I come up with an Idea that works and looks good I will surley post when that day come, if anyone else comes up with a solutuon or Idea please post for all us roadster guys,,,Thanks in advance!
