Default 1934 Ford roof rack stripaterial

Is there a material or product to put into the channel to trace the missing original tar like material?

There is a black plastic convertible top tack strip that is 7/8" x 1/4" that looks ideal to replace the original. We need to repair about a two foot section on my friend's '33; but are considering drilling out the rivets and replacing the whole strip. And possibly reusing the good front and back sections of the original strip on a coupe. Here is a link to the strip; there are probably are other sources too; maybe at a better price.
