Default turn indicator lights

Hi, I have searched lots of threads here about installing indicator lights but I still can't find a wiring diagram or any suggestion as to where is the best place for the flasher unit. I have a 29 RPU.

I use 2 plastic ties and mount it under the dash on top of steering column.

The turn signal indicator lights on my Victoria are wired direct to each brake light at the rear of the car, they both come on when the brakes are applied, otherwise they flash independently when the turn signal switch is activated.

Tom, Normally the brake light is wired through the turn indicator switch. Is that what you have?

The brake lights are wired through the turn signal harness so when activated the brake light is controlled by whatever way you are turning. The indicator lights under the dash are wired direct to the brake lights right at the light itself. When not turning and I step on the brakes both lights light.

I have a 900 unit, Bratton's part #18730.
The second to last page of the document posted by NKaminar says:
"Hook the battery back up and you'll have flashing turn signals,--with the cowl lights on or off." The info sheets that Bratton's shows online doesn't say COWL, just "...with the lights on or off."

The cowl lights on my car only operate as turn signals. Is there a way to keep the parking light function and turn signal as well?

David, yes there is. You need a dual filament socket and bulb. See https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...6486&cat=41723 or https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...6485&cat=41723

Thank you! The cowl lights are very visible to other drivers, and I've mourned losing them to have turn signals.

Carry extra bulbs or use LED bulbs. The LEDs last a lot longer.

Thanks Guys for your answers - some great wiring diagrams there. But on my 29 Roadster Pickup there does not seem to be any convenient place to install the flasher unit. There is not enough room under the kick panels. Under the gas tank would seem to be a good place but there is no shelf or flange there to put it on. Maybe I should just glue it there?

Double stick floral tape it anywhere it is convenient to run wires to.

Just use some double-sided sticky tape and attach to the bottom of the fuel tank.

Other people have mentioned using a bracket and rare earth (neodymium) magnets to secure it out of the way without drilling any holes. This has been used for a variety of electronic devices. Be careful with these magnets. They can be fatal if swallowed by a child or dog. I’ve bought them at Horrible Fright, although they didn’t know what neodymium or rare earth meant, they just called them magnets.

If you can find a plastic 35mm film cannister the flasher will fit inside and you can screw the cannister to the kick panel. Worked for me but that was 20 years ago when they were plentiful....
