Default Ford wire wheel

I was at a local antique store the other day. And they had wire wheel. It has the five on five and a half bolt pattern and it measures from outside of the rim to the other side 18 1/2 inches. I have four other wire rims that measure 17 1/2 inches. What does my new to me rim fit and what size of tire do I need to get for it.? It's only going to be used as a spare. Thanks for any help with this.

Posting a picture of the wheel in question will help you get an answer to your question.

Hello, 1932 Fords had 18 inch rims, the only year to do so as standard equipment, 1933 34 also known as Model 40 have 17 inch rims . As mentioned a picture would help.

The correct way to measure a rim is where the tire bead seats. This will be about 1 1/2 inches less than the overall diameter. My guess is that the 18 1/2 if for a 17 inch tire (1933-34) and the 17 1/2 is for a 16 inch tire (1935). My advice would be to get the correct rims for your car or at least get 5 that match. The correct ones are not that expensive. Attached for your info is a picture of the 18 inch rim/tire on my '32. When you buy a rim check that it is straight, the spokes are straight and the recesses for the lug nuts are to damaged.

If you added your general location to your profile something might show up.

You need a tire 1" bigger than the ones you have on your other 4 wheels. I'd be more inclined to get the same size wheel as you have in case you ever do need to use it. Someone in your local A club will have a bunch of them at $25 each.
