29 instrument panel lamp
Just finished restoring the instrument cluster panel for my 29. There was no ignition switch or lamp. I installed the lamp assembly and I'm not sure what the function of the cap is. It pulls off and is twist able . I just know for a good reason but I can't find much about it on the net. Please advise

Re: 29 instrument panel lamp
When you twist to the right and push in slightly it turns the lamp on.

Re: 29 instrument panel lamp
Should the cap come off so easily or should I try to push it down to pop it in?

Re: 29 instrument panel lamp
It should be a firm fit, other wise it would slip when turning the lamp on. I probably don't have a good side view of the lamp.
My lamp is 1 3/4" from the instrument panel to the top of the shield when the lamp is off. Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 02-19-2012 at 06:20 PM. |

If you've got a repro, don't expect it to work properly.

Re: 29 instrument panel lamp
Rick, it's a pretty easy operation to remove and clean your gauge, and a new gasket and float set is only about $10. Altogether you should only have about a couple hours in the job.

Re: 29 instrument panel lamp
There's a detente for the ON position that is reached by turning the light ~ 1/4 turn or less clockwise; if you turn it past the detente, the unit falls out in your hand--at least that's how mine works.

Re: 29 instrument panel lamp
Thanks guys - I have found the spot where it stops on each side of the 1/4 turn. - your right it is a repo - if I come across an origional I'll sure will get it. I'll try to tool this cap to stay down
