Great photos. I really like the view down into Owens Valley and (dry) Owens Lake. When I was young, my family used to spend time at a cabin up the mountain from Independence. My brother and I used to drive up that hill in a VW - got slow by the time we got to the campground at Grays Meadow. We go up to Mammoth now. I have never driven my A up 395, but I have seen A's touring up 395 a few times. It is something I would like to do sometime. When you got up to 7000 or 8000 ft did you have any carb mixture issues? I have had problems with other, more modern carburated cars in Mammoth (not enough air). I hope to see you on the road next time I head up that way.

I've been over Monarch Pass and a few in CA that reach 10K or more. Never noticed any mixture problems. The long inclines do slow me down, but it doesn't behave like my 54 Olds 98 did, where it just ran out of poor at about 7,000 ft.

A few years ago when I drove to Breckenridge for the High Country Tour, the Grand Tour route included Loveland Pass (elevation 11,990). There were about 100 cars that made the tour over Loveland Pass that day and on to Grand Lake. I remember they had a seminar during the meet that addressed driving at elevation and basically, advised to just keep leaning out the gas which I did.
