390 engine swap
Does anyone out there have experience or knowledge about installing a 390 big block ford into a 53 Ford car ? It appears that because of the tie rod and drag link setup, a rear sump pan would not work, but a front sump pan, which seems to be more common on the 390's, will hit the front crossmember. Is modifying the crossmember viable ?? Thanks for any help on this. Bill <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: 390 engine swap.. I put a 429 in a 1952
Crestline Victoria, Notched the cross 3" X 8" and then boxed in with metal I cut. Let me know if you need additional information. Russ aka Inthegarge <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Re: 390 engine swap
We used to have the same problem installing a 312 in the same car. I've taken a torch to the crossmember several times with no negative results. I've been in these cars at 140+ and they are still solid as a rock......Lee <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |

Years ago I put an Olds in a 52 and purchased a dropped tie rod from JC Whitney in Chicago. Don't know where to look today, but Whitney may give you a clue. Good Luck! <table><tr><td><font face="arial"> |
