Default 390 engine swap

Does anyone out there have experience or knowledge about installing a 390 big block ford into a 53 Ford car ? It appears that because of the tie rod and drag link setup, a rear sump pan would not work, but a front sump pan, which seems to be more common on the 390's, will hit the front crossmember. Is modifying the crossmember viable ?? Thanks for any help on this. Bill

Crestline Victoria, Notched the cross 3" X 8" and then boxed in with metal I cut. Let me know if you need additional information. Russ aka Inthegarge

We used to have the same problem installing a 312 in the same car. I've taken a torch to the crossmember several times with no negative results. I've been in these cars at 140+ and they are still solid as a rock......Lee

Years ago I put an Olds in a 52 and purchased a dropped tie rod from JC Whitney in Chicago. Don't know where to look today, but Whitney may give you a clue. Good Luck!
