Orig Pop-out Switch Insulator
Does anyone know how the insulator on the post on an original early '30 pop-out switch is held in place? I'm talking about the post that receives the red wire from the coil. Mine is loose and it wiggles from side to side a bit, and I'm thinking that might be the reason for some intermittent ignition problems I've been having.

I'm referring to the post that has the knurled knob on it in this picture.

Re: Orig Pop-out Switch Insulator
on both the early and later pop out switches the stud and insulator are held in place with a round nut that has two slots in it. it should not move. I`m having trouble up loading pictures from my new camera.
looking at your picture there should be a round nut under that lock washer |

Re: Orig Pop-out Switch Insulator
This is mine. It has a slotted nut like the ammeter does to hold down the brown insulator. It also just has a real big black twist connector nut. I thought this was all that was original.
Do I need something else like a type of lock washer or just leave it alone as is?

Re: Orig Pop-out Switch Insulator
You can see in these pictures that on mine, the slotted nut recesses into the insulator until it is nearly flush. The slotted nut fits into a cavity in the insulator, and tightening the nut just seems to tighten the post to the insulator. It doesn't seem to tighten the insulator in the bore of the boss. Kim, yours looks to be a fiber flat washer, and it appears to be the later mid '30-'31 style switch. Mine looks different. I removed the lock cylinder and the contact and post slid into the body of the switch. I could see that the insulator extends the entire internal length of the cylindrical boss the post extends from. It's shaped like a tube. I tried to remove the insulator by gently pressing it into the body of the switch, but it didn't move. I didn't want to force it.

Re: Orig Pop-out Switch Insulator
What I ended up doing to stabilize the insulator, not being able to determine how it is held in place, was to let some crazy glue run in between the body of the switch and the insulator. It is now firmly in place, but I suspect that if it ever needs to be removed, I've made that next to impossible with the crazy glue fix.
