Question 49 merc turn signal question

i am rewiring my 49 merc the turn signal switch when i got the wheel of i found a spring sitting in the cup not sure where it goes i know it must help to cancel the signal i don't have a shop manuel has any had one apart and knows where it goes or does any one have a picture of one or from the parts book thanks mike

Mike, Here's a photo from the Shop Manual along with some pertinent info.
