Default V-8 60 water pumps

Anyone know why Ford changed styles from tapered to straight? Were there problems with tapered style or was it a cost cutting change? Looks like to me that the tapered style would have a more positive seal. Thanks for all responses.Ray

I think they did have leakage problems but mostly with the shade tree mechanics trying to do repairs without knowing how it all is supposed to go together. The tapered ones were finicky about seating and a person had to know how to get the correct fit of the impeller and the housing to keep them from leaking. With the straight pump bodies you just mostly had to worry about the impeller.

THis was a good discussion on the EFV8 forum. There have been a few good ones on this forum too.
