Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp
Some recent video I put together trying out some exhaust options on the 52 Merc. Then checking the engine temp with the infra red tester after a drive.

Ralph I voted for the straight pipe but the deflector will keep your bumper cleaner.

Re: Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp
I was surprised how much difference even the deflector made to the sound. The bumper already has significant dulling of the finish from exhaust. Even steel wool can't bring back the shine just above where the pipe exits. Most of the time I"m happy with the straight pipe too but wondering if I could be stopped and charged with excessive noise violations. I guess what I need is a muffler that looks normal but hollow and straight through. :-)

Re: Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp
Thanks for checking it out. Chances are I'll be keeping it that way. Most of the exhaust is in good shape except the tail pipe going over the rear axle. Getting a bit thin with rust so if I ever have to work on that I might just try a "glass pack" just out of curiosity.

Re: Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp
Just my opinion but didn’t care for that straight pipe sound it sounded like i had a exhaust leak Went with the 1 - 3/4 stock pipe with the cherry bomb mufflers they make long and short units i used the short ones out the back i took a 20 inch piece of stainless cut the end at a angle polished it with a buffer and mother’s looks like chrome sounds great we have a noise ordinance here but it doesn’t include Harlys i guess
