Re: The Original Lap Robe
Pluck,
Thanks for the info. One of those lap robes would look good in my roadster. Bob-A |

Re: The Original Lap Robe
That is neat to see, probably some survived but nobody knows what they really are. I was expecting to see a big Ford script on it.

Re: The Original Lap Robe
Does anyone know what "body cloth" is as mentions in the post? Just curious.

When Ford had remnants left at the end of a bolt, too small to upholster a seat, it got sent over to the Lap Robe people.

Re: The Original Lap Robe
Any ideas of where these would have been made? Appears to be a perfect fit for a Ford cottage industry operation.

Re: The Original Lap Robe
Hi Steve,
Nice job researching the lap robe. It would be nice to include the robe rails too. Thanks so much for sharing your work.

Re: The Original Lap Robe
Most of Ford's upholstery in the model A era was made in a section of the repurposed Highland Park plant. They made up upholstery sets in kit form to send to all the various body assembly organizations and contractors.
The Highland Park plant was a pretty good sized facility and some of it still exists in Detroit. Briggs Body had a fire destroy one of their plants in Detroit so Ford rented them a pretty good chunk of the facility with no stipulations. Briggs made bodies for Chrysler and others so there were competitors bodies coming from an old Ford plant as well as Ford bodies. |

Number #749 on the list of things I did not know about Model A's
Henry was so frugal he probably spent many a sleepless night trying to figure out how to re-use the air in tires.
